"Eli the Bearded" is the long term internet name of Benjamin Elijah Griffin. His contributions to the net have mostly been in Usenet, where he has written and contributed to FAQ collections on email addressing, newsgroup moderation, and procmail; moderated alt.sex.stories.d for two years as an act of civil disobedience while the Communications Decency Act was in effect; and generally popped up here and there over the years.

He created his Wikipedia account after reading a book on the american lobster.
