Welcome to my page!
I came to Wikipedia a little over a month ago, with no idea that it was this wonderfully democratic, dynamic, living, constantly evolving organ of information exchange. Since then, I've substantially rewritten and/or corrected entries on cool, African American, motherfucker, funk, Quiet Storm, blackface, Uncle Tom; portions of the dozens, jazz, African American culture, African American Vernacular English; and contributed to Esther Phillips, Joe Zawinul, Curtis Mayfield and Potemkin village, for starters.
And I've had a few things to say in discusions on race, white trash, African American Vernacular English and other topics.
What can I say? I'm addicted.
As my name indicates, I live in Washington, D.C. -- the "belly of the beast," as the Panthers used to call it back in the day. I'm here to lend some, I think, much needed color to the place. The prism through which I view the world is unapologetically African-American. (After all, it is only through understanding and appreciating our individuality that we begin to understand and embrace our universality -- right? :-p) It's when well-meaning folks gloss over the personal; those messy, bothersome details of the particular in a rush to what they imagine to be some ideal universal, kumbaya melting pot that problems develop. Unfortunately, I think I see a lot of that on this site. At least I prefer to assume certain glaring omissions and/or misstatements of fact have no nefarious intent.
Ever wondered where the phrase "selling wolf tickets" comes from? It makes no sense -- right? Read my entry on the subjectt. You'll say, "O-o-oh!" Ah, the mysteries of inter-ethnic communication. :-p
My "thing" isn't black folks. It's not a preoccupation, a crusade or some embarrassingly regrettable character flaw; it's simply part of who and what I am. Take it or leave it. It's a come-with kinda thing.
As you may read my contributions, keep one thing in mind: bluntness/directness is not disrespect; I just don't believe in stroking egos. Straight-ahead comment is always the shortest distance between two points.
If you've got something to say, well, FINE, then. But don't say it here. Tell it to my (Talk) page, dammit, 'cuz this page ain't lis'nin'. :-p
Peace!
And for those of you whom I may have annoyed, offended or unsettled, lemme say that one mo' 'gin: PEACE!
I'm done.

So much for being diplomatic.
What I also have begun to take increasing notice of on Wikipedia is a mind-set of arrogance and often ill-informed presumption when it comes to discussion of topics related to African-Americans -- the endless venting on extraneous subjects wholly unrelated to the subject at hand -- which evidence deep-seated, anti-black antipathy/animus. And then there's the blatant hostility/racism.
If you're reading this page and are inclined to engage in such unseemly blatherings, get some self-respect, common sense and keep such sentiments to yourself. Wikipedia is not a venue for mindless rants. There are therapists for that purpose.
News flash: The world isn't yours anymore.
I've got three words fuyyah: Get over it. deeceevoice 15:57, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)
