| Quote of the Moment Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad. |

Me
A 29 year old former software developer hailing from Long Island, New York in the United States. I am also an administrator.
Having entirely burned out from the rigors of the software development field, I was (after some reflection) quite pleased to be laid off. Almost immediately I decided, with the support of my lovely wife Jennifer, to return to Stony Brook University where I am working on my PhD in developmental genetics.
As part of the welcoming committee, and have been doing my best to make Wikipedia a better (and better informed) place. My particular interests are diverse: everything from local history, to music (especially Lo-Fi bands such as Neutral Milk Hotel other others of the Elephant Six Collective), to religion, to the sciences.
If you wish to contact me, feel free to make a note on my talk page.
My Goal at Wikipedia
I've decided that I would like to create or vastly improve at least three articles per week. This is only a goal, however... the life of a grad student is a taxing one. Right now, I seem to have ended up concentrating on cleaning up the various chemical weapon agent pages, such as sarin, cyclosarin, VX, nerve agent, etc.. I even created a template: Template:WMD/Chemical.
More importantly, I hope to successfully advocate for boldness in recognizing the hard work of others, be it a kind word or something as official as a barnstar or other award.
My goal of adminship is within reach: on 13 Nov 2004 David Remahl nominated me. To watch or take part in the poll, take a look at Requests for adminship/ClockworkTroll. My edits are low, but I genuinely care about Wikipedia, and I think I've already made an impact with the number of newcomers I help. Wish me luck! (The poll closes at 05:00 20 November 2004.)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
- A. First let me make things plain: I would like to have administration privileges, I really would. However, I really just see them as a means to better fill my role as a dedicated member of the Wikipedia community. In a nutshell, I'm looking forward to actively using any and all admin privileges that may be granted to me wherever they are most needed (without prejudice). That being said, one of my favorite things to do when I'm not writing or helping newcomers is acting as a vandalism hunter-killer. Also, I've more and more wanted to become involved in arbitration; the enforcement power can only serve to make me more effective at this often dirty job.
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A. My favorite articles to date are photosynthesis (as part of WikiProject Science) and sarin (which is part of a greater chemical weapon project for which I created Template:WMD/Chemical).
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
- A. As a software developer, I often served as a team leader. In this role I had to manage many different people with many different opinions, often when hopped up on caffeine and working way more than any person should ever have to. In this "trial by fire", I learned a simple skill for defusing most conflicts: be calm, repeat when you heard, and only then do you say what you think. I used this technique when I had a brief conflict with UtherSRG over content for wolf. My initial approch is here, and his response is here. Most of my namespace work is on articles that others have ignored, so that is my only real WikiConflict.
Wikistatistics
Below my edit statistics as per the Excel spreadsheet on the most active Wikipedians page. Though it's supposed to be compiled weekly, there's no timestamp on it, so I can't be sure. I've been told that this data is from the week of November 29:
Because I'm in the process of a name change, all of my old edits are still associated with my old name, ClockworkTroll. Therefore, both data sets are included below.

User Page Vandalism
I, like some others, see a moderate amount of vandalism of my user and talk pages as a good thing: it means that I am establishing a WikiPresence (to coin a term).
As Winston Churchill said, "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

Significant Contributions
My general tendency is to edit a relatively small number of articles, making large and often exhaustively researched edits. My latest project started when I noticed that the article for sarin was short and ugly. I am now deeply entrenched in rewriting nearly all articles relating in any way with chemical warfare.
I have no idea what I will do if I ever finish that project.
